Hiring Professional Video for Your Presentation

If you’re a professional speaker and you want to record your next presentation, there are basically three ways to book a videographer. Click the link above to download our cheatsheet designed to help you book the best video pro for the job.

Option One: Hire a Freelancer

I recommend hiring through ProductionHUB and even Craigslist — seriously. There are plenty of talented independent videographers out there if you know what to look for.

The upside is cost. A freelancer will usually be your most affordable option.

The downside is quality control. You have to vet them yourself. Look for portfolios that include live events — conferences, concerts, and even weddings. Someone that’s used to working in an environment where they only get one chance to get it right. Careful of portfolios with indie short films or music videos. Those skill sets don’t necessarily translate.

When hiring freelancers, ASK:

  • Can they record clean audio from the PA system?

  • Can they provide a lavalier microphone as backup?

  • Can they deliver a lightly edited version of the full presentation?

  • Can they give you both the final video and the original files?

  • At minimum, ask for a color-graded and audio-mixed copy of the talk. Raw footage is typically not ready to share and post.

Option Two: Hire a Local Production Company

Search for terms like “event video production,” “conference videographer,” or “live event production company” in the city where you’re speaking. The benefit is reliability. A real production company will usually have better gear, backup equipment, and more experience working at live events.

The downside is cost. They may also be built for larger projects than you actually need, which can make the process feel heavier and more expensive.

Look for smaller production companies that specifically mention live events, conferences, or corporate presentations.

Option Three: Spotlight Speaker Videos

The pro is simplicity. You do not have to chase freelancers, compare random portfolios, manage the technical details, or figure out what to ask for. The process is built around speakers and presentations.

Bottom Line

The right choice depends on what you need.

If budget is the biggest concern, hire a freelancer — just vet carefully.

If you need a larger crew or a more complex production, call a local production company.

And if you want a simpler way to get professional presentation videos without managing the details yourself, book through Spotlight Videos.

The main point is this: if you’re already stepping on stage, record it.

Even a simple recording can become a full presentation video, short clips, a speaker reel, and content you can use long after the event is over to help you - stay in the spotlight.
